Scout Activities in 2008

Scouts Winter Camp

32 members took park in the districts winter camp at Waddecar over the weekend 28/30th November.

It was a cold camp but good fun, including spooky fun and games organised by the young leaders from 79th Denshaw, shooting, archery and caving in muddy tunnels. All members managed to gain their stage 2 IT badge utilising the on site IT suite.

A trip round the little gem scouting museum was interesting to all viewing one cabinet with a uniform from first Oldham dating back to 1908.

A good weekend was had by all. Thank you to the young leaders for their evening entertainment programme and Amanda Whitehead for her help in organising the camp.

Scouts County 5 a side Football Competition

3 teams represented Oldham in the County finals, St Pauls, Denshaw & Uppermill. Unfortunately none of them won. The eventual winners were from Royton. A good day had by all.

Scouts trip to Alton Towers

58 members have been on a district trip to Alton towers on their "uniform day". With the exception of the water rides all the rides were open and there were no queues for any of them. Scouts had a good day upside down travelling at speed and being some of the last people to ride the corkscrew as it was closed the following day for demolition.

Scouts 5 a side Football Competition

The Scouts 5 a-side football competition was held at Breeze Hill school on Saturday 18th October.

5 teams entered with a well fought competition resulting in a 3 way draw at the top of the table. Uppermill, Denshaw & St Paul's all tied with 3 wins and a draw each to give them 7 points.

A mini play off was then held with St Paul's, the newest scout group in Oldham, winning. Denshaw came second and Uppermill third.

Well done to all who took part

All three teams will be representing Oldham in the County Finals on 2nd November at Oldham Sports Stadium 1-4pm

Water Weekend

The 5th - 7th Sept Water Weekend was re-arranged due to weather conditions and camp moved to Linnet Clough.  A fun filled weekend had by all rafting. canoeing. climbing. grass sledging. tenpin bowling and laserace. More than made up for the disappointment of not being in the lake district.

Backwoods Cooking Competition

14th September Backwoods Cooking day at Denshaw Llama Farm. Low attendance, only 2 groups but enjoyed by those who took part cooking chicken, fish with raisins, potatoes scallops, sweet corn, carrots and leek, with a stewed fruit pudding all cooked on a fire in the ground with a hot drink complimented by utensils, plates and gadgets made from tinfoil. A good day had by all.

County Cooking Competition

20th September County Cooking Competition. Knolls Lane and Denshaw putting into practice the skills the had learnt the week before in a contest against scouts from Bury, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom and Bolton. After a glorious day at Bibby's Farm in the sun shine, building fires, preparing and cooking food, the final results were a successful 1st and 2nd to Oldham. Well done to all.
