Scouts meet the Chief ScoutScouts from the 85th, 112th & 115th Oldham were among a number
of Scouts from Greater Manchester North who meet the Chief Scout when
he visited the County on 22 May 1999. Following this visit the Chief went on to the Headquarters of the 5th Bolton where Shaun Scoltock, from the 1st Oldham was one of 22 Scouts to be presented with their Chief Scouts Award. The Chief told a packed audience of parents and Leaders that anyone could achieve this award, but it took determination and stickability to actually get it. He asked each of the Scouts if they were now going to try for their Queens Scouts Award and said he would look forward to seeing them at a future St George's Day Parade in Windsor. Incident Hike - 6 March 99The day chosen for our incident hike was typical of many outdoor Scouting events which are planned. It was deep in snow with blizzard conditions forecast for much of the morning. It was intended that the Scouts would walk for a number of miles in open countryside, encountering incidents during the journey. The incident we didn't want however was a full scale rescue. It was therefore decided to stage the bases in the headquarters of the 85th and abandon the hike. The teams which made it to the new venue had to demonstrate their knowledge of First Aid and treatment of a patient suspected of having hypothermia, Knotting and Pioneering. One base, which was to inspect they had the correct clothes and equipment before setting out on the hike, was abandoned, as most Scouts, aware of the change of venue, didn't bring their hiking gear with them. At the end of the event the 22nd Oldham, Lydgate were the winners. Congratulations to the winners and everyone else who took part. This page was created on 10 November 1999 |
