Obituary

I am sorry to tell you that Alan Ogden, ACSL at Leesfield, died on 15th June after suffering from Cancer.

I last saw Alan whilst manning the display at Sainsbury's last October when he told me he was feeling much better, however since then his health deteriorated and he died peacefully in Dr Kershaws.

Alan began helping with the Cubs a number of years ago and was one of the few leaders to complete his Wood Badge training before applying to become a warranted leader.

Scout supplies web site

I have received an e-mail telling me about a company that supplies Scout clothing and equipment.

If anyone is interested, their web site address is http://www.onestopscouting.co.uk/

Beaver Safari Sleepover

A Safari Sleepover was held on the 20/21 June & 21/22 June 2008 at Boarshurst Outdoor Pursuit Centre, Greenfield.

The Beavers had a very full evening & day doing lots of exciting things. The theme of safari went throughout the weekend although we didn't get the hot weather just the very wet rain.

They made camera's, binoculars, photograph albums, springy spiders and very slippery snakes. There were plenty of wild animals around including lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants and some very snappy crocodiles. After a very, very early breakfast, some keep fit and parachute games the excited Beavers took their camera's and binoculars on a safari walk and took pictures to put into their photo albums on return, They went searching down winding tree lined lanes, found a sweet shop and ended up at the safari play park even though it was very wet, the beavers didn't seem to mind.

At night they had a campfire and went on a lion egg hunt and saw some bright lion eggs which were due to hatch by the morning so we had to go and search for them whilst on our safari.

The sleepover ended with a short Beaver's Own and everyone then went home with a certificate and bag of goodies.

Farewell to Paul and Ruth

On the 22nd July Paul, Ruth and his two children, Rebecca & Charlotte, will leave Oldham to start a new life in Canada.

Both have been involved in Scouting since they were very young as their respective parents were both leaders. As soon as they were old enough to take out a leaders warrant they both did so and went on to become valued leaders both in their own group and in the district.

There cannot be a leader in Oldham who has not been influenced or benefited from their experience and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we will all miss them.

Obviously, as Paul's father, I am going to miss Paul and his family more than most but I am sure they are doing the right thing and I wish them well in their new life.

They have arranged to have have farewell party on the 12th July and invitations have gone out both by e-mail and snail mail. I hope therefore that as many leaders as possible are able to join them on the 12th and give them a fantastic send off.
