Welcome to Explorer Scouting.
This is the new section created as part of the 6 to 25 year Programme
launched in Spring 2002, for young people between 14 and 18 years of age.
Explorer Scouting consists of District based Units. Although each Unit
may provide a range of activities it is possible that some Units will
specialise in a particular type of activity, however Explorer Scouts who
are members of the specialist Units can still take part in a balanced
programme by joining in activities run by other Units.
In an attempt to get an Explorer Unit set up in Oldham a number
of young people have started meeting on the first and third Tuesday each
month (except in January and August when alternative arrangements take
place) under the guidance of existing scout leaders.
During the evening they plan and discuss any forthcoming events, learn
about the Young Leaders Scheme and, of course, enjoy themselves.
If YOU want to join them check the diary
for details of the next meeting. Explorer Scouts who are young leaders will also be a member of a Young
Leaders Unit and receive basic training ready for the day the day when
they become a warranted leader.
There are also a number of badges and awards that an Explorer Scout can
earn. These are shown on our Explorer
Badges page.
If you want any more information about Explorer Scouting , then have
a look at the Explorer Scout pages on
scouts.org, the Scout Association's official web site.
