Cub Sixer's Christmas Party
Although there was only 10 Cubs from 4 Cub Packs present they had a great
time and consequently were able to have a double portion of the Hot Dogs that
had been made.
During the evening they played a number of party games including one in which
if they threw a six on a dice they had the opportunity to eat some chocolate.
Unfortunately before they could eat the chocolate they had to put on a pair of
Wellingtons, a coat, gloves and a hat, then eat the chocolate with a knife and
fork. In the meantime the rest of the Cubs were still throwing the dice
and if anyone else managed to get a six they changed places.
District Cub Camp
This was held at Bradley Wood Campsite, Brighouse on a warm and sunny
weekend in June.
Over 60 Cubs from 5 Groups took part in an enjoyable weekend of
activities making full use of the on-site activities which included archery,
riffle shooting, sledging and swimming.
They also registered with Scout HQ for "The Giant Sleepover" in which the
organisers were hoping to break a Guinness World Record by having 100,000
young people taking part in a simultaneous sleepover. All the
Oldham Cubs received a goody bag with souvenirs as a reminder of the
occasion and had their photograph taken under the Giant Sleepover banner as
proof that they had taken part in what might be a World Record.
District 5 a side football competition
Due to some last minute entries 22 teams took part in
this year's competition. Teams were split into just 2 leagues and each
team played 10 games to determine the league winners and runners up.
Obviously with so many games to be played each match only
lasted a short time, but all the Cubs thought it was great because they got to
play lots of games.
Eventually the four teams going forward to the semi finals
were:
St Edward's A, Lydgate B, Hey St John's C & Waterhead Devils.
In both semi finals at the end of full time the scores were 0
- 0 so the teams had to play on until a "golden goal" won the match. Both
games seemed to go on for ever but eventually St Edward's A and Hey St
John's C won their games 1 - 0.
After a short rest the final was a repeat of the semi finals
with both teams being unable to score during normal time. Again it was a
"golden goal" which determined the outcome.
So after some very even contests our congratulations go to
St Edwards A who beat Hey St John C by 1 goal to nil.
Very well done to everyone but especially to the winning
team St Edward's A.
Cub Activity Badge Workshop
The first activity in 2005 was an Activity Badge Workshop attended by
over 80 Cub Scouts.
This was held at Counthill School so that they could make full use of
the computer suites available and offer the Computer Badge Stage 1. The
school also arranged for 8 students from the school, including the head
boy and girl, to come along and help the Cubs complete their assignments.
In addition they also had expert help from St John's Ambulance to teach
the Cubs First Aid and from Oldham Road Safety Unit to teach them about
Road Safety. The fourth badge available was Personal safety.
Everyone had an enjoyable day and a large number of badges were awarded
at the end of the day.
