Cub Activities in 2002

Sixers Christmas Party

17 Cub Sixer's attended a special Christmas Party at the BP Centre to thank them for all they do each week as sixer's.

During the evening they played typical party games including, pass the parcel, musical chairs and had a donkey derby as well as an observation game using a pack of playing cards.

Although the lucky one's won prizes, everyone was really a winner as they all got sweets to take home.

Every party has some food and this was no exception. They enjoyed hot dogs, doughnuts, crisps and biscuits all washed down with plenty of fruit cordial.

Swimming Gala

Cubs from 7 Packs took part in this years swimming gala held at Royton Baths.

Although it was obvious in some of the races who had won, there was a number of races in which the judges had a very difficult decision to split first from second and even third. In fact in one race they had no choice but to give all three a dead heat and put them all into the semi finals.

Points were awarded to the group based on whether the Cub came in first, second, third or fourth. These were totalled up and the top three groups were:

In first place - 10th Oldham, Knolls Lane
In second place - 22nd Oldham, St Anne's Lydgate
In third place - 15th Oldham, Holy Trinity, Waterhead

Congratulations to all the winners and well done everyone.

District Cub Camp

This years camp was held at Dunham Massey in Cheshire on one of the few nice weekends we have had this year.

Almost 100 Cubs from 6 Groups took part in a wide range of activities based on the new Outdoor Challenge Award including, compass work, backwoods cooking, nature trails, mini pioneering and in preparation for the evenings camp fire made some fine origami hats.

The camp fire was led by Big Barry assisted by Neil, Tracey, Bill and included a sketch led by Sue. Everyone joined in both with the singing and the actions well into the late evening.

On the Sunday the Cubs went for a walk in Dunham Deer Park, did some pond dipping and during the afternoon had their own version of the Commonwealth Games.

At the end of the camp Wood Badge Awards were presented to some of the leaders who had recently completed their training.

5 a side Football.

Once again, 24 teams were split into four leagues and each team played 5 games before the four semi-finalist's were determined.

Both semi finals were keenly contested before an appreciative audience. The results were:

St. Anne's, Lydgate "A" - 1 v St. Thomas, Moorside "A" - 0

Saddleworth Bulldogs "B" - 3 v St. Edward's "A" - 1

The winners show off the trophyIn the final game play moved quickly from one end to the other with Bulldogs scoring an early goal. Lydgate then pressed hard and got the equaliser, but this only made Bulldogs even more determined to get at least one more goal.

The final score was Saddleworth Bulldogs "B" - 3 v St. Anne's, Lydgate "A" - 1

Well done to everyone and especially the Cubs from Saddleworth Bulldogs.

Special thanks also go to the organisers and the referee who did a magnificent job.
