Cub Activities in 2000

5 a side Football.

5 a side winnersAs previously, all teams were put into leagues and played a number of games during the afternoon.  After many exciting matches, both teams from the 15th, along with teams from the 16th and 130th emerged as the semi finalist.

Although the 16th and 130th had each been able to score 3 goals in the semi final and win their matches, neither team was able to score a goal during normal time in the final.  Extra time was then played and the 130th Oldham, St Paul's, Scouthead scored the all important "golden goal".

Congratulations to everyone who took part and especially to the Cubs from the 130th Oldham.

District Cub Camp

This years district camp was held at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre in Chapeltown, near Sheffield.

It was warm and sunny, and everyone made the most of this unusual weather.

Although the numbers were down on previous years there was plenty to keep everyone happy. The programme included making a nature collage, bark rubbing, a treasure trail, making casts of their hands and face with mod rock, team games, camp fire, swimming and much more.

Cubs make a nature collage

Here some Cubs are seen sticking leaves, grass and twigs together to make a nature collage.

These pictures show cubs having a mod rock plaster cast put on their arm and another wearing a face mask.

Trip to the Dordogne Region, France

After 18 months of planning 43 Cubs, Scouts and Leaders finally set of for their holiday of a lifetime.

After an uneventful journey we arrived to spend the next 7 days enjoying glorious sunshine and take part in a fantastic range of activities.

See France 2000 for a full report and pictures.

District Trip to West Midlands Safari Park

Despite being assured at 5pm on Friday evening that everything was OK by the coach company, they failed to send a coach for us on Saturday morning and didn't answer the phone when we tried to find out what had happened.

Rather than disappoint everyone we tried to get another, but at such short notice no other coaches were available.

This meant some 55 Cubs and leaders had no option but to go back home and think about what might have been.

Activity Badge Workshop

Over 100 Cubs took part in this years activity badge workshop held at Counthill School. The idea behind these workshops is to give the Cubs an opportunity to earn badges that leaders may find difficult to teach at a normal pack meeting or may not even have the knowledge.

This year, the badges covered were; Computer, Communicator, Map Reader and Road Safety.

For the Road Safety Badge two people from the Oldham Road Safety Unit came along and brought some of their own equipment to help the leaders teach the Cubs about Road Safety.

In the meantime those who wanted to earn their computer badge had the use of some 80 computers in three of the school's computer suites. They were able to produce a newsletter, with Scouting clip art which had kindly been put onto the school's network, and a certificate of attendance.

The District Fellowship provided valuable assistance behind the scenes by providing drinks and security.

Well done everyone.
