Beaver Scout Badges & Awards

This is the Membership Badge and is awarded when a boy or girl is becomes a member of the Scout Movement.

This Badge is worn on the left chest.

The Joining-in Badge celebrates a Beaver Scouts participation in the Programme of activities over a period of time.

These Badges recognise the length of time a young person has been a member of the Scout Movement rather than as member of a particular section and are numbered from 1 through to 9.

The first Badge is presented 12 months after receiving their Membership Badge and annually after a further 12 months.

This Badge is worn on the left chest above the Membership Badge.

There are three Challenge Badges;

  • The Outdoor Challenge (as shown on the left)
  • The Discovery Challenge
  • The Friendship Challenge

Beavers should participate in at least six activities for each challenge.

They can complete a Challenge a second time, but on the second time you would expect to see more involvement, skill and development. They can then wear both Badges on their uniform.

This badge is worn on the right chest in line with the Membership Badge.

To gain the Chief Scout's Bronze Award, the highest award for a Beaver Scout, the Beaver will need to complete

  • The Outdoor Challenge
  • The Friendship or Discovery Challenge
  • A personal challenge

If the Beaver has not quite completed this Award when they move up to the Cub Pack it can be completed during their first few weeks in the Cubs.

This badge is worn on the right chest above the Challenge Badges

There are five Activity Badges which recognise the skills and talents that our young people have, they are;

  • Animal friend (shown on the left)
  • Creative
  • Experiment
  • Explore
  • Faith

These badges are worn on the left sleeve.

In addition to the above Activity Badges, there are four Staged Activity Badges, each with five stages, which can be earned by any member in the first four sections, these are;

  • Nights Away (Stage 1 badge shown on the left)
  • Information Technology
  • Musician
  • Swimmer

With these badges it is the skill of the individual and not their age or section which determines which badge they are to be awarded.

Any badge earned whilst a Beaver can be worn on the Cub Scout uniform, then replaced when they are awarded the next stage.

These Badges are worn with other Activity Badges on the left sleeve.

To enable Sections to work together there are three Group Awards, these are;

  • The Environment Award (shown on the left)
  • The International Friendship award
  • The Faith Award

These badges are worn below the County and District Badges on the right sleeve.

When it is time to move up to the Cub Scouts, a Beaver can work for their Moving-On Award.

This badge is worn on the left chest immediately above the Membership Badge.
(This badge is earned in Beavers but will usually be seen on their Cub Uniform)

Details of how to gain these badges is shown in the leaders "Colony Essentials" handbook and on Scoutbase
