Beaver Activities in 2008

Beaver Craft Day

Although there was only around 30 Beavers present they all had a fun packed afternoon and were able to make souvenirs to take back home.

Amongst the items made were valentine cards, stuffed bunny rabbits, book marks, pen holders, fluffy bugs, an Easter mobile to hang in their bedroom and lots of things to colour.  They could also make pancakes and pizza's as well as a healthy snack or fruit salad.

Despite being held in February the weather was warm and sunny so the afternoon also included the opportunity to toast marshmallows over a barbeque and an Easter Egg hunt around the grounds of the hall.

Beaver Safari Sleepover

A Safari Sleepover was held on the 20/21 June & 21/22 June 2008 at Boarshurst Outdoor Pursuit Centre, Greenfield.

The Beavers had a very full evening & day doing lots of exciting things. The theme of safari went throughout the weekend although we didn't get the hot weather just the very wet rain.

They made camera's, binoculars, photograph albums, springy spiders and very slippery snakes. There were plenty of wild animals around including lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants and some very snappy crocodiles. After a very, very early breakfast, some keep fit and parachute games the excited Beavers took their camera's and binoculars on a safari walk and took pictures to put into their photo albums on return, They went searching down winding tree lined lanes, found a sweet shop and ended up at the safari play park even though it was very wet, the beavers didn't seem to mind.

At night they had a campfire and went on a lion egg hunt and saw some bright lion eggs which were due to hatch by the morning so we had to go and search for them whilst on our safari.

The sleepover ended with a short Beaver's Own and everyone then went home with a certificate and bag of goodies.

Beaver Conservation Day

Around 50 Beavers from 7 colonies met at Delph Methodist on a hot, sunny afternoon in September armed with wellies and wet weather gear. (It always rains when Beaver plan any activity outdoors)

With the help from countryside warden, Richard, they went river dipping, one group even managing to catch a fish. No one fell in this year, they went tree lopping, (well branches really), bug hunting, even asking the local people if they could rummage through their compost heaps.

The Beavers planted bulbs and cress seeds, made caterpillars on giant leaves, leaf prints and sketches, finger paint bugs, made bats with huge wings, brightly coloured butterflies and painted wooden flowers, animals and sea creatures. They had their faces painted with animal designs and they looked great.

During the afternoon they drank gallons of orange and blackcurrant juice, had chocolate biscuits and fruit.

Thank you to all who helped and supported this conservation day and made it the success that it was.
