Beaver Activities in 2006

Beaver Party and Carol Service

In December the Beavers took part in their annual Christmas Fun Day.  During the afternoon they made a number of items, all with a Christmas theme, played some games and collected a present from Santa Claus.

This was followed on the Monday evening with a Carol service at Greenacres Congregational Church.  Unfortunately not as many Beavers as usual took part in this years service even though the vicar used his laptop computer to make the service more interesting.

Beaver Sleepovers

Over 50 Beavers took part in a sleepover at Bibby's Farm Scout Camp on the weekend commencing Friday, 29th September.

On arrival the Beavers were shown were they would be sleeping before playing some games, enjoying a camp fire and watching a video.

In the morning, whilst breakfast was being prepared by some of the leaders, the Beavers had  short keep fit session before playing parachute games.

After breakfast they took part in a number of activities including Climbing, Abseiling, Archery, and Grass Sledging whilst inside the accommodation there were a number of bases set up with a birthday theme including balloon modelling.

Thanks go to all the leaders who helped to make the weekend a success and to those who drove the mini-buses which got everyone there and back safely.

Beaver Conservation / Environment Day

Despite almost continuous rain showers around 50 Beavers enjoyed themselves pond dipping and taking part on other nature bases.

The event was based at Waterhead Parish Hall were the Beavers had the opportunity to plant some seeds, make a colourful tissue flower, make a butterfly, colour and make up a finger puppet with the face of a bug, complete dot to dot nature pictures, make their own monsters and make some monster sweets.

Also during the afternoon they went in full waterproof outdoor clothing and wellingtons to a small pond in Strinesdale Country Park to do some pond dipping. Each group managed to catch one small fish but the majority just caught tadpoles.  Needless to say two Beavers managed to slip and finished up with a rather wet bottom.  Fortunately everyone had brought a spare set of clothes so no lasting damage was done.

Beaver Fun Day

Although lots of Beavers from around the County took part in the Beaver County Fun Day, only the Beavers from two groups in Oldham enjoyed the fun day out.

Amongst the many attractions was a circus skills base where they tried walking a tightrope and juggling.  There was also an inflatable slide and obstacle course as well as a fire engine and ambulance for them to explore.

Although there was a couple of light showers in the morning the afternoon was warm and sunny and everyone had a great time
