Beaver Activities in 2002

Christmas Carol Service

On a cold. wet and windy night Beavers from 7 Colonies took part in a Christmas Carol Service.

Apart from singing a number of popular carols, Beavers from 128th Oldham performed a play entitled "The Gigantic Star". This was all about the the birth of Christ and how a gigantic star led three wise men with their gifts to Jesus in the stable in Bethlehem.

The opportunity was also taken during the service for the DC to thank everyone not only for attending, but for all the hard work they put into making Beaver Scouting such good fun for so many young children.

In addition he presented Long Service Certificates to four of the Beaver Leaders, Julie Dunnington, Julie McLoughlin, Judith Allen and Fay Wanless.

Christmas Fun Day

Almost 70 Beavers took part in this Fun Day with a Christmas theme.

During the afternoon they made Christmas crackers, Cristingle oranges, snow storm shakers, Christmas mobiles, Yule logs and cooked mince meat puddings on a barbecue. The also played games and went on a treasure hunt which finished in Santa's Grotto. The afternoon ended with a short indoor camp fire.

Everyone had a really good time and they all went home with a bag full of goodies that they had made.

Beaver Conservation Day

Beavers from Parish Church, St. Cuthbert's, St. Barnabas and St. John's took part in the Conservation Day held at Park Bridge Heritage Centre.

Despite it being a cold morning the Countryside Wardens took the Beavers on a nature walk during which they collected a number of leaves and other items for identification later in the day. The wardens also showed them how to make musical instruments from grass and tree bark and how to make a corn dolly. This was followed by each Beaver making a mask in the shape of an animals face and exploring the visitor centre and learning how people lived and worked during the industrial revolution period.

From the visitor centre the Beavers were also able to watch a number of Squirrels feeding and running up and down some nearby trees.

Although it started to rain it didn't dampen their enthusiasm and the day was rounded off with everyone joining in some parachute games.

Easter Eggstavaganza

This took place in Delph based at the HQ of the 3rd Oldham.Beavers make Easter goodies

48 Beavers from the 3rd, 9th, 10th, 21st and 128th had a wonderful afternoon making Easter Bunnies, Easter Cakes, Easter Fridge Magnets, Easter Cards and searching for the lost Easter Eggs.

As usual everyone went home tired but with a bag full of goodies.

Still looking for eggs !Thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make this a success and to Delph for letting us use your HQ and surrounding countryside.

If anyone goes for a walk around Delph, remember to keep your eyes open for any Easter Eggs that may still be lost.

Beaver Fun Day

Beavers from the 7th, 9th, 21st, 115th and 128th Groups took part in the County Fun Day at Ashworth Valley on a sunny afternoon in June.
