Beaver Activities in 1999

Christmas Party

40 Beavers from the 3rd, 5th, 15th and 16th Colonies enjoyed an afternoon of craft and games.
They decorated digestive biscuits with the face of Father Christmas, made candles, and played all the usual party games. This was followed by a feast of hot dogs, crisps, cake and orange juice.
More games were then played and everyone wished each other a Very Happy Christmas before leaving to enjoy their own Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Carol Concert

Around 60 Beavers together with their Brothers, Sisters, Mums and Dads attended this years carol concert at Waterhead Parish Church.
During the service the Beavers from Waterhead performed a short play about International Scouting and handed out a number of Christmas cards to members of the congregation.
Father Christmas made a short visit and, following tradition, the Beavers each gave him a Christmas Cracker containing a small present which he could pass on to less fortunate children.
The Beavers were then entertained by the local vicar on guitar accompanied by his organist on the keyboard, to a number of carols and Christmas songs.
Finally everyone had mince pies, cakes, crisps and a drink.

Trip to Camelot

Beavers from 4 local colonies joined others from the County at Camelot Theme Park to enjoy a day of fun, thrills and excitement.
During the day many of the Beavers and their leaders got wet riding on the log flume, got frightened on the Tower of Terror, got a birds eye view of the park from Falcon's flight and watched the Black Knight and Lancelot battle it out in the Jousting Arena.
King Arthur also made special arrangements for Mad Edgar, the Court Jester to present Dianne and Sarah, both leaders at the 15th Oldham, with their Leaders Warrant.

Conservation day report

Over 70 Beavers met at Strinsdale County Park on October 2nd to learn about the countryside and how they could help to protect it. Although there is plenty of water and wild life in the area the Beavers couldn't spot the Beaver Mascot anywhere, perhaps he was too busy having lunch!

making a bird box

During the day the Medlock Valley Countryside Wardens acted as their guides, showing them how to make bird boxes and involving them in a number of conservation projects that they were currently working on.
The Beavers had a super day and even persuaded the rain to stop whilst they took part in the outdoor activities.
