Santa Special Excursion - December 1998

In December approx 50 Beavers and Leaders went to Bury to catch the East Lancs Railway, Santa Special

The East Lancs Railway runs a regular service of steam trains from Bury to Rossendale, a major tourist attraction all year round.

Each December they put on special trains which are decorated with tinsel and streamers. These special trains run from Bury to Rawtenstall and carry a very special guest.  Yes, it's Santa.  He walks through the train with his helpers and distributes a present to all the children. The adults are not left out either as they get a mince pie and a drink of Sherry.

A small band follows Santa through the train and plays carols and children's favourites such as Jingle Bells and Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer.  Everyone joins in the singing and really gets into the Christmas mood.

All the Beavers had a great time and couldn't wait to tell Santa not to forget that special present they had asked him to bring on Christmas morning.
